About the Artist
Intuitive artist Kathleen Love Schmieder’s unique imagery has evolved out of a lifelong love of nature and fascination with human psychology, particularly the intersection of subjective corporeal and spiritual realities the artist calls the “myndscape.” An avid reader, writer, amateur photographer, and traveler, Kathleen collects diverse natural and cultural artifacts from around the world to inspire and inform her drawings, paintings, collages and assemblages.
A mother of two in a small, rural community, Kathleen’s creative energies found a particularly fulfilling outlet in the formation of a teen support circle for which she designed the curriculum, compiled a book, and orchestrated a coming of age ceremony with her co-teacher Suzanne Smith. Creating a safe environment for self-expression, the open exchange of ideas, and nourishing creativity is a cause that is close to her heart, one that includes the practice of drawing mandalas and walking the medicine wheel. Although her children are grown now, Kathleen still considers her home and studio a sanctuary for cultural creatives of all ages.
Primarily self-taught, Kathleen had her first one woman show, Wonderland, in 2003 and since then has found a home in the visionary arts community, honing her skills in the company of Alex Grey, Amanda Sage, Andrew Gonzales, Laurence Caruana and Maura Holden among other notables. Her collages can be found in collections around the world. Artist in Residence at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in 2011, Kathleen enjoys teaching creative process and is currently working on a series of books related to the topic.
